The Story of the Shepherd Boy

At the center of the captivating rolling meadows, resided a young shepherd. His existence was essentially unadulterated, and unsophisticated. His primary duty was mainly to care for his flock of rams.

Their soft bleating and the murmuring of the gales among the lone tree on the hilltop were his constant companions. Day after day, watching over his charges instilled in him a feeling of quiet fulfillment.

Yet, there were the occasional moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would yearn for companionship. On one such day from sheer boredom, the shepherd boy conceived a troublesome plan.

Narratives of wild beasts preying on sheep had been around for a while in the town. So, the boy chose to used this fear and played a joke on the villagers.

One day he raced into the village yelling “Wolf! There is a wolf attacking my sheep!” The frightened villagers rushed up the hills to offer assistance but found no beast.

The boy giggled at the dilemma on their faces. This trick continued for a couple of more days. But, one morning, a real wolf did charge at the herd. The shepherd boy dashed for aid screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.
